Facebook and CNN take the pulse
Facebook is partnering with CNN
to offer apps and insights related
to the 2012 US presidential
election for CNN’s on-air, mobile
and online audiences and
Facebook’s 160m-plus US users.
Part of the multi-platform
partnership is the interactive,
engaging “I'm Voting” Facebook
application. The app enables
people who use Facebook to
commit to voting and endorse
specific candidates and issues.
Commitments to vote are
displayed on people’s Facebook
timeline, news feed, and real-
time ticker. The app will serve as
a “second screen” for CNN's
America’s Choice 2012 political
coverage. Via on-air, online and
mobile segments, CNN
personalities will use the app to
ask Facebook users the most
important questions driving the
national dialogue and report on
their answers.
Facebook will also provide
CNN with metrics about the
discussion of each presidential
and vice presidential candidate
on the social network. The
companies will survey voting-age
IN BRIEF
SPAIN'S MOBILE
EXODUS
Spain's Telecommunications
Market Commission CMT
reports that the Spanish
mobile market has been
shrinking - 380,000 customer
cancellations were recorded
in April, a further 250,000 in
May. As customers continued
to cancel mobile lines amid
the country’s economic crisis,
the two largest players
Telefonica and Vodafone
suffered the greatest losses,
possibly as a consequence of
withdrawing subsidies for
expensive smartphones for
new customers. Significantly
fewer users switched from
one provider to another.
Spain's telecoms sector had
a turnover of €38bn in 2011.

Iran’smedia
profile
New data gathered for US
agency Broadcasting Board of
Governors show Iran to be a
pretty wired place, with two-
thirds of households having
access to computers and 39% of
Iranians surfing the Internet
weekly. The findings on how
Iranians use TV, radio and digital
media were released in June at
the inaugural event of the BBG
Research Series, which is
conducted in partnership with
Gallup. Bruce Sherman, director
of strategy and development for
the BBG, said “The series aims
to broaden public understanding
of media in the generally closed
societies targeted by the BBG by
sharing research data funded
with taxpayer dollars and largely
unavailable through commercial
sources.” The findings reveal a
technologically connected
society with 100% of respondents
having a working TV in their
household and 90% having a
working mobile phone.
Computer and Internet use is
spreading across both genders
and overall Internet use has
doubled in the past two years. TV
remains the main information
source for 86% of the population.
Multichannel branding
Canadian media and
entertainment giant Corus
Entertainment has chosen Vizrt
to automate the creation of
customised channel branding
graphics for each of the up to 30
channels emanating from its
new facility in Toronto.
CE Art Director Dale Dobson
said determining factors were
that only Vizrt had all the
graphics components CE
needed; the tools to automate
graphics creation tasks; the
ability to support an IP, file-
based, BXF workflow; and that
Vizrt offered its exceptional R&D
services to write any additional
plug-ins and API’s needed to
integrate its systems and third
party products for seamless
interoperability.
